Michele Johnsen
Director of Communications and Social Media
Michele Johnsen is the Director of Communications and Social Media for AdventurousBug.com and President of Michele Johnsen Communications. She is an award-winning communications and public relations expert and a dynamic storyteller specializing in social change, human rights, culture and public diplomacy. She works in all aspects of her field including strategic planning, media relations, digital media, special-events, crisis communications and brand management.
Prior to starting her own business, Michele was Director of Marketing Communications for Easter Seals Southern California, the region’s largest non-profit organization serving people with disabilities. There, she built a full-service Marketing Communications Department from the ground up and was recognized by National Easter Seals for creating the most sophisticated communications division among the organization’s 35 affiliates.
Michele received her Master’s Degree in Public Diplomacy from the University of Southern California and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from California State University, Northridge. She is English/Spanish bilingual.
Human rights advocacy and international conflict resolution are Michele’s passions. She presented at the US Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia on the subjects of indigenous land rights and security and was the lead human rights researcher for the USC Master of Public Diplomacy International Research Team in Indonesia. Through her advocacy work, she has found herself in the midst of a variety of adventures in Latin America – from living with indigenous people in the jungles of Colombia to dancing Bachata in the rain on the streets of Quito, Ecuador.
