Exploring the trails of Conejo Open Space
You don't have to venture far from the city to enjoy the great outdoors. The Conejo Open Space ridgeline trail system offers plenty of feeder trails to explore.
The Los Robles Trail delivers serval options of fun from hiking to dirt biking along Skyline, Conejo Ridge, South Ranch, Los Robles, Hope Nature Preserve, South Ridge, Ventu Park, and Deer Ridge encompassing nearly 2,000 acres. There is no shortage of choices, it all depends on what you are feeling at the moment. The western terminus of the Los Robles Trail invites you to explore even more as you walk along the Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa section of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and Point Mugu State Park combined creating 27,000 acres of open space from the Pacific Ocean to Sycamore Cove. You can travel down into secluded trails or head up to the ridgelines for panoramic views. You may even catch a glimpse of the wildlife which call the area home, rattlesnake, coyote, bobcat, and mountain lion.
Rich History
Los Robles Trail also packs in a little history. On February 28, 1776, Juan Bautista de Anza and his band of 198 settlers and 1,000 head of livestock traveled through the area on their way from Mexico to San Francisco. Although the 101 freeway is their actual route the National Park System designated this area in their honor so that everyone could enjoy this marvelous landscape.
